The human skull was thought to represent different brain functions. These functions were located by finding various contours and bumps on the surface of the skull. This was known as phrenology. Today neuroscientist have a much more advanced understanding of brain anatomy. Research has shown that localisation of function is a fact, but not related to the contours of the skull. The brains anatomical  composition  has been advanced by neuroscience research to knowledge of the neurological composition of the grey matter inside the skull.
